There are many households in which the women lack financial independence; this can also influence the entire family’s survival. To empower women in the state financially, the West Bengal Government launched a project dubbed Lakshmir Bhandar, which provides monthly stipends to make them economically independent. Launched by the West Bengal Government in February 2021, the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme offers financial assistance to women, especially those from poor backgrounds.

Women within certain age brackets under this scheme receive monthly stipends to help them gain economic independence. The West Bengal Government introduced new measures whereby instead of receiving Rs 500, beneficiaries will now take home Rs1000 while those earning Rs1000 are now receiving Rs1200.

Benefits and Objectives of the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme

• In light of the average family’s monthly expenditures in West Bengal, the amount is fixed for each family. This will enable them to manage their everyday essential needs.
• Additionally, the main aim of this scheme is to boost both rural and urban economies in the State by helping women be self-sufficient and meet their daily requirements.
• Women in the State will become financially independent.
• More than 1.5 crore families will receive monetary help every month.
• Similarly, 10% to 20% of the monthly expenses will be financed through this program.
• The benefits amount of the scheme will be transferred to bank accounts directly.
• The scheme can be applied by females from all caste groups.

Eligibility Criteria Under Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme 

• Applicant should be a resident of West Bengal
• Applicants should be women
• Age should  be between 25 to 60 years
• Applicant should be enrolled under the “Swasthyasathi” scheme
• Candidate must be a government employee in permanent employment/ retired government employee of Central/ State Government, Statutory Bodies, Government Undertakings, Panchayats, Municipal Corporations/ Municipalities, Local Bodies, teaching and non-teaching employees of Government Educational Institutions, etc. receiving regular salary/ pension.

The required documents under the scheme are as follows:

• Aadhar card
• Swasthyasathi Card
• Self-attested copy of the bank account details
• SC/ST certificate (if applicable)
• Coloured passport-size photograph
• Self-declaration of residency and non-employment in regular government jobs.

Following are the steps of application for the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme:

• Go to Duare Sarkar camps near your home and collect the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme application frame.
• Write your required details on the application frame.
• Submit the application form at Duare Sarkar camp with the necessary records and self-attested copies.
• The District Development Officers (DDOs) in rural areas and the Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) in urban areas should verify the applications received at Duare Sarkar camps and upload them on the online portal.
• The list of eligible candidates will be suggested by the Square Development Officer or Sub-Divisional Officer for approval from the District Judge.
• After confirming and approving your application, financial help will be transferred to your bank account linked with your Aadhaar Card.

2. When the site loads, move down to the bottom. Locate and click on the “Track Application Status” option. 
3. A new page will pop up. Enter any of the following:
