On 15th November 2016, Hon’ble Shri Nitish Kumar, the CM of Bihar launched a program called “The Har Ghar Bijli” which was the last plot prepared about the Saat Nishchay portfolio for the Bihar government. It focused on providing power connections in Bihar. The Government of Bihar had instructed various departments to implement this plot.

Har Ghar Bijli Yojna 2024: Things You Must Know

This plan permits free energy to rural and urban families in Bihar. Those houses without power connections will benefit from this scheme. Approximately 50 lakh families will be served under this scheme. However, 50% of families above the poverty line in Bihar will be covered under this scheme. 

The initial beneficiaries of these schemes were BPL cardholders, APL cardholders came later. The aim was to provide electricity to homes in the villages and cities.

Under the Har Ghar Bijli scheme, those who apply for the service will have no fee for the connection. But they must pay the monthly power bill because it is a consumption unit. People who don’t want a connection should submit a written application. 

Features and Benefits of Har Ghar Bijli Yojana

Earlier in the Har Ghar Bijli Yojana citizens spent Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 to get an electricity connection, now free electricity is provided to all poor families in urban and rural areas. You only have to pay your electricity bill. Under Har Ghar Yojana 2024, the benefit is provided to all families deprived of electricity connection.

• This Yojana will provide relief from the issue of electricity in every house.

• Under the Har Ghar Bijli Yojana, free connection and rebates for electricity bills will be provided.

• Poor families are eligible for a free metered connection, whereas other families must pay Rs. 500. (adjusted in electricity bills over 10 monthly installments).
• The mobile application will identify beneficiaries and complete electronic registration (including necessary documentation). 
• Monitoring and updating progress in close to real-time via the web Solar photovoltaic (SPV) based standalone systems to households in remote or inaccessible areas. 
• It offers subsidies on equipment such as wires, transformers, and meters. Under this scheme, 50% of families under the APL category in Bihar would get free electricity connections. 
• This plan Har Ghar Bijli Yojana is also expected to enhance the socio-economic development of the state.

Eligibility Criteria: Har Ghar Bijli Yojana

If you are a resident of Bihar state and want benefits of free Har ghar Bijli Yojana. You can avail the benefit of the scheme by fulfilling this eligibility criterion:

• Applicant must be a resident of Bihar state
• Applicant must be above 18 years old age
• To get all the benefits of the Har Ghar Bijli Yojana you should not take other electricity connection
• Applicant should not be benefited under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana
• Families with electricity connections are not eligible under this scheme

• Applicant’s Aadhar card
• Residence certificate/income certificate of the applicant
• Ration card
• Mobile number
• Email id
• Passport size photo

Bihar Har Ghar Bijli Yojana: Online Registration Process

If you are a Bihar resident and do not have electric connection, these are some easy steps a citizen can follow to sign online to enjoy the perks of Har Ghar Bijli Yojana:

• To begin with, you need to visit the official site https://hargharbijli.bsphcl.co.in to apply for Har Ghar Bijli Yojana.
• Then, on the homepage, tap the ‘Consumer Suvidha Activities’ option.
• A new page will appear. On that page press the ‘Apply for unused power connection’ link.
• After this, you will see two options on another modern page.
  • “Application for South Bihar Control Supply Co Ltd”
  • “Application for North Bihar Control Supply Co. Ltd.”
• Out of these two, select one as per your needs.
• After this import your cellphone number to the remaining page and the district name must be selected too.
• Now click Create OTP.
• Afterward, the Har Ghar Bijli Yojana form appears and fills in all required details requested there.
• Next, upload all necessary documents and finally click the submit button.
• This way your online application will be approved under the HGBY scheme in Bihar.

Easy Steps to Check Application Status

• Visit the official website of the Bihar Har Ghar Bijli Scheme 
• On the home page tap on Consumer Facilitation Activity
• Now the button will come to check the status of the application form
• A new page will appear, enter the request number
• Now click on view status to show the current status of your application form

The term Har Ghar Bijli Yojana Power was curated from the Saat Nischay agenda which made the Nitish Kumar Government successful. An advanced program aims to provide electricity to every house in Bihar. In addition, this scheme helps families falling under the APL (Above Poverty Level) classification but are not getting an electric connection. The State Government has declared that 20 million families will benefit from this scheme.
